• Your Oregon Stories for December 2019 •

'Tis definitely the season, Friend.

These last weeks of 2019 are giving new meaning to "holiday rush" here at 1000 Friends, but that means more good news to share with you!

We're growing our Farmer Advisory Committee and expanding services for our partner organizations. We've just filed a LUBA appeal on behalf of one of our affiliates, Friends of French Prairie, challenging a plan to expand the Aurora Airport onto lush farmland. We're working with community groups in cities across Oregon to bring local voices to the table to discuss Oregon's housing issues, including the implementation of HB 2001.

At the same time, we're actively preparing for the 2020 legislative session, where climate change, wildfire protections, and funding for the Oregon Agricultural Heritage Program are likely to receive some major attention. We've published our latest annual report. We welcomed nearly 150 guests, including 2 new board members, in celebration of the season at our annual Holiday Happy Hour.

And the year's not over yet.

Your support made all the difference in 2019, and it will continue to make even more of a difference in 2020. If you have already made your year-end gift, thank you! If not, please take a moment to do so today. You can even give the gift of a 1-year membership.

Happy holidays, and thank you for being a Friend.

For Oregon,

Executive Director

The Aurora Airport and surrounding farmland

Airport Expansion Won't Fly

Sorry, luxury jet owners—you're going to have to find somewhere else to touch down. We've filed an appeal with LUBA to make sure the Aurora Airport doesn't expand over prime rural farmlands.
