Now or never: Tell Washington County to prioritize farmland!

Greetings, friend,

We need your help protecting farmland in Washington County. Join us in telling local leaders that you oppose Ordinance 882, which would facilitate the creation of an eight-mile, three-lane collector road, extending Tile Flat Road to cut through the future River Terrace 2.0 community, productive working lands, and important habitat.

If built, this road would negatively affect farming operations and water quality, spur sprawling development patterns across farmland, and redirect limited transportation resources away from a backlog of transportation needs in Washington County. The City of Tigard has made it clear that this ordinance would negatively impact future growth and development within the River Terrace 2.0 community, which will bring needed housing to our region.

For nearly two years, 1000 Friends of Oregon has been tracking Washington County Ordinances 882 and 883 (the latter proposing a similar extension to Cornelius Pass Road). In the summer of 2022, we testified alongside many residents and partner organizations who voiced frustration and concerns about the process and the irreversible consequences of building these roads. Because of our collective research and advocacy, the Washington County Board of Commissioners rejected Ordinance 883.

Washington County continues to delay a vote on Ordinance 882 rather than simply reject it as they did with 883.

We need your help to let the Washington County Board of Commissioners know that Oregonians are paying attention to the development decisions we are making now, to protect this place we call home for generations to come.

There are two ways to take action now!

  1. Use this link to send a pre-filled message to the Washington County Board of Commissioners, expressing your concerns with Ordinance 882, and asking the commission to VOTE NO on the ordinance.
  2. Sign up to testify by emailing Washcoclerk@co.washington.or.us, saying you would like to testify on Ordinance 882 on December 12 at 6:30 p.m. You can give testimony in person, over Zoom, or on the phone. We’ve created this resource in case you’d like help preparing your talking points. Please reach out to Brett, Transportation Policy Director and Legislative Manager, by emailing me at Brett@friends.org for help with testimony.

Thank you for being a friend of Oregon!

Sincerely,

Brett Morgan
Transportation Director and Legislative Manager
